The Incredibles 2 Review

The superhero movie the twelve year-old in us has been waiting for for years. That’s right, I’m talking about The Incredibles 2. Since the release of The Incredibles back in 2004 fans having been begging Pixar Studios to create its sequel. I’m happy to say, through years of wanting and hoping, the little kids in all of us finally got what we wanted as of June 15, 2018. Now the burning question is: Does it live up to the hype? Or is it just another sequel face-palm?

The superhero movie the twelve year-old in us has been waiting for for years. That’s right, I’m talking about The Incredibles 2. Since the release of The Incredibles back in 2004 fans having been begging Pixar Studios to create its sequel. I’m happy to say, through years of wanting and hoping, the little kids in all of us finally got what we wanted as of June 15, 2018. Now the burning question is: Does it live up to the hype? Or is it just another sequel face-palm?

A little background on our “Incredible” heroes.

Some may not remember this movie, while others probably don’t know what this movie is at all. So let’s shine some light on what was one of the most popular animated films back in 2004.

The Incredibles. This movie was a kids dream come true if they were into superheros. The movie followed what seemed to be a normal family going about their daily lives. The father worked at a business firm, the mom was a stay at home mother, and the kids went to school like normal children. Seems completely normal right? Well, everything isn’t what it seems at first glance. This family was hiding a secret: They were Supers.

The parents were none other than Mr. Incredible and Elasti-Girl. As for their kids–they were just growing into their powers: Super speed for Dash–the son, and invisibility for Violet–the daughter. The thing is, they had to hide their powers (hence it being a secret). Well, at least they hid it until a certain deranged, egotistical, and frankly a little creepy super villain decided to make an appearance. But, that my friends, is an article for another time. Long story short, they no longer could hide behind normal people lives, this family was thrusted back into the superhero light becoming what we, as fans know today as the Incredibles.

Living the “Incredible” life once more.

Fast forward 14 years, (yes, it has been that long.) We get to see our favorite Supers back at it again. Taking down bad guys, wearing their awesome suits designed by Edna herself, and being awesome. Except this time, there’s a bit of a wrench thrown into their lives.

Because of one minor–or major, it depends on how you look at it–slip up, super heroes become illegal. So, the Incredibles find themselves going underground yet again. Until a certain someone with an affinity for Supers decides to step in…

What did I think?

Now, what was my opinion on the movie? Was it amazing, or a complete face-palm flop? I absolutely adored it. In fact, I thought it was better than the first one and quite worth the wait. Here are some points of the movie that I thought completely blew the first one out of the water. (No worries for spoilers here, I wouldn’t do that to my fellow nerds.)

  • Jack-Jack’s powers (Holy crap, was that entertaining to watch)
  • More Frozone! (He deserves his own movie)
  • Never a dull moment (Every single minute something is happening that is intriguing)
  • Edna Mode (She, herself, should be a reason why you need to see this movie)
  • New tech (Need I say more?)

Through the whole movie I was constantly entertained and moved by everything going on. At some points my sides hurt from laughing, at others I was cheering the family on. This is a movie you don’t want to miss.

For those who have seen the movie, what did you think and what were your favorite parts? Also, if you want a more in depth discussion of The Incredibles 2, check out The Social Hobbit’s next article: The Incredibles 2: Why it’s the definition of Incredible.

  1. So we are also monster Incredibles fans and went to see this as soon as it was released. We definitely enjoyed it, but it left us with a few “what the eff??” moments. The most pressing was regarding the Underminer. So he got away, he got the cash, and that’s that??? It was like they needed him in the story to tie into the first but then decided that they were bored with his story. And yes yes yes to the Frozone Show. Samuel L. is one bad mother…. Well you know the rest. 😉
