You see the Pop Figurines everywhere, the music is all over YouTube, not to mention you can’t go to a convention nowadays without seeing at least one CupHead cosplay. So, what exactly is CupHead? I can’t be the only one in the dark about this. So, let’s find out shall we?
What is CupHead?
After a little research, I found out that CupHead is actually a video game. It was released just last year (2017) on September 29. It is a run-and gun type of a game that is designed to look like the cartoons back in the 1930’s. For example the old cartoon style Walt Disney started out with. This style is commonly referred to as the “Rubber Hose” Style. And currently this game is only available on two platforms: Microsoft Windows, and X-Box. But you can easily find this game for a mere 20 dollars on Steam.
Since it’s a video game, what could possibly be the plot?
Great question! What indeed is the plot of this new and interesting game? It’s intriguing to say the least that’s for sure. The game starts out on a fictional island called Inkwell Isles where the two main characters CupHead and his brother MugMan (creative names aren’t they?) go into the Devil’s Casino against their caretakers warnings. Long story short, they mess up big time and end up owing the Devil.
In order to save themselves from his evil grasp they must go on an adventure throughout the isles to get the Devil’s “Contracts” in order to save their souls. They go up against numerous bosses which are in itself miniature story lines and explore the whole island.
Is it worth buy though?
Ah, the ultimate question for any gamer? Is this game worth using precious time and money for? I would have to say, that’s up to you my friend. From what I’ve found on this game, I am interested in trying it out. The characters seems very fun and the stories behind them intrigue me. Especially the one about the Devil’s lackey, King Dice.
The play style seems interesting as well. Being a top-down format with secret bases. And also after each battle it appears that you get a letter ranking on how you did. With this, you can make your character–CupHead, stronger and get “Charms” to power up CupHead. It also looks like they is a multiplayer mode for two people, where the second person can play as CupHead’s brother–MugMan.
If your not a big fan of the run and gun style of play or a fast paced play through, I wouldn’t recommend this game. But if you like a game that will give you a run for your money with challenges, I’d say try it out!
